While moving on-premises Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops to Citrix Cloud, IT administrators must understand its components.
FREMONT, CA: Citrix Cloud has been available in the market for more than five years. It's developed from cloud-based management for current Citrix infrastructure to services that make any Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops setup easier to manage.
Shifting to a Citrix Workspace on the Citrix Cloud necessitates a significant transformation in the current architecture. Several businesses and IT departments consider a cloud-based workspace because it offers more flexibility, the convenience of management, and scale than traditional VDI. IT administrators must learn the effective procedures for deploying a Citrix Cloud-based workspace.
Understanding the components of Citrix Cloud
IT managers must understand the main components of the Citrix Cloud solution before engaging in this type of migration. The Citrix Cloud is a service that offers conventional Citrix components as a service.
This is the successor for Citrix Storefront, a web portal that allows users to manage their applications and desktops. Citrix Cloud offers this software as a service option, and there has not been any more development on Citrix Storefront since then.
Citrix Gateway Service
This is the alternative for Citrix NetScaler Gateway, also known as an access gateway, which gives users remote access. The Gateway Service tunnels communication from the end-user to the desktop or application when a user opens a virtual application or a desktop. Companies can still utilize conventional Citrix Gateway ADC in conjunction with other Citrix Cloud services if they don't want to employ this service.
Citrix Cloud Connector
It is an updated solution of the desktop delivery controller, which operates as a gateway for communication between the virtual delivery agent (VDA) and the Citrix Cloud control plane. The Cloud Connector also works as a proxy for the Gateway Service's end-user traffic. The Gateway Service traffic will avoid the Cloud Connector and go directly to the VDA if IT allows the Rendezvous protocol. This only happens if the Rendezvous protocol isn't in use.
Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Management Plane
The Citrix management plane binds everything together and serves as the management plane because the cloud connector functions as a proxy. It also includes a licensing system and a management web interface beneath the management plane.
