What the Digital Asset Management Industry Looks Like?

Digital assets, mostly images, and videos, are being created and consumed at an increasing pace. To continue to give value to businesses, digital asset management systems must keep up with technological advancements.

The creation and consumption of digital assets, namely photos and videos, is increasing exponentially as organizations focus on offering outstanding visual experiences online. This isn't limited to the brand's own website or app. Social media, emails, push alerts, digital marketing, and other consumer engagement channels have all come together to become an important element of running a successful online business. This increases the number of digital assets and variations a business produces in order to keep its audience interested.

To make matters worse, the pandemic has forced content and marketing teams to separate offices. Email, Slack, Google Drive, and various other platforms are used by teams to communicate creatives and comments. Because these digital technologies aren't designed for sharing and collaborating on social media, new campaign and promotion execution and iterations take longer. This isn't ideal for any company wanting to race and expand in an increasingly competitive online environment.

DAM systems will need to keep up with the changing industry and technology landscape to continue offering value to businesses in the future. DAM systems will evolve by:

  1. Targeting niche industries and contemporary content types.

Industries such as health care and Fin-Tech have significantly diverse security and access control requirements for digital assets. If specialized DAM systems haven't already been established for these businesses and others that will emerge in the future, they will. Furthermore, as live photos and AR/VR content become more prevalent in the future, DAM systems will need to adapt to handle these new forms of content.

  1. Increase adoption of AI

AI would play a significant part in DAM systems, just as it does in every other business. Some of the AI use cases in DAM that will become prevalent in the near future include inferring the actual content of an image or video file and allowing users to search based on that content, search based on the speech in a video, and intelligent cropping of files for different placeholders.

  1.  Closing the loop with asset delivery that is optimized

With many platforms on which to offer content, DAM solutions will make it easy to export, or better yet, deliver, optimized assets right out of the box. DAM systems would no longer be limited to asset management; they would also complete the cycle of providing consumers with high-quality, optimized experiences across devices.
